Film your part in 360: cameras and drones going into CES 2027

Film your part in 360. Skate and surf video is the reason half of us own a camera at all, and the camera business had a strange 2026: the biggest name in drones was missing from the show, a 360 camera company became a drone company, and GoPro skipped CES to make its comeback somewhere else. Here is the state of play going into CES 2027.

Insta360 owned the show

Insta360 turned its booth into an “Insta360 Yellow” block party and used CES 2026 for the official debut of the Antigravity A1, which it calls the world’s first fully integrated 8K 360-degree drone. The idea is simple and kind of brilliant: fly first, frame later. The drone records everything in every direction and you pick the shot in the edit. For a skate filmer that means one pass down a line captures the trick, the spot and the reaction at the same time.

The rest of the lineup was there too: the X5 360 camera, which the company pitches as the best-value 8K 360 camera, the Ace Pro 2 action cam, the tiny GO Ultra, the Luna Ultra gimbal camera, plus the Flow 2 Pro and Link 2 Pro accessories. By the time this runs, an X6 is rumored, based on a leak and an FCC filing, so expect that at the show if it has not shipped.

Where was DJI?

Not on the floor. A Nikkei report from the show noted DJI has been barred from selling new models in the US, which is exactly why Insta360 is pushing into American drones. DJI answered the A1 anyway: on March 26, 2026 it announced the Avata 360, a 360 FPV drone that records 8K at 60 fps in 360 mode or 4K 60 in single-lens mode. Whether you can buy one in the US by January is a question for the lawyers, not the engineers.

GoPro’s comeback is happening elsewhere

GoPro did not have a CES 2026 product. It announced a new GP3 processor in March 2026 and showed its GP3-generation cameras at NAB in April. A HERO14 Black has been outlined but was not shipping when we checked. The point: do not count GoPro out, but do not expect its big moment to happen in Vegas.

What FUNN shoots with

We shoot the magazine’s holographic clips on green screen, and the 360 and action cams are what we take to the spots. The thing we care about for 2027 is not resolution, it is workflow: how fast can a 360 clip become a flat 9:16 clip that is actually good, without a desktop. The company that nails that on the phone wins every skate filmer under 25.

What we are looking for in January

  • A 360 drone we can legally buy and fly in California in 2027, from anyone.
  • The Insta360 X6 in the flesh, and whether it fixes the X5’s low-light weakness.
  • Modular action cams. A tipster said a Chinese company would show a tiny modular action camera at CES 2026 to rival the DJI Osmo Nano; nobody confirmed it. Maybe this year.
  • Phone-first 360 editing that does not need a laptop.
