Electric boards, e-motos and the battery police: mobility at CES 2027
Electric boards, e-motos and the battery police. The mobility halls at CES used to be about cars. They still are, but the part we actually ride is the small stuff: e-bikes, electric dirt bikes and the electric skateboards nobody expected to see at a trade show. Here is what rolled out at CES 2026 and what we expect in January.
Segway went big
Segway used CES 2026 to launch two new e-bikes, the Myon and the Muxi, starting at 1,699 dollars, aimed at a wider crowd than its first e-bikes a year earlier. It also showed the Xaber 300, an electric dirt bike at 5,299.99 dollars with a spring/summer 2026 release. The dirt bike is the one that got the skate crowd’s attention: it is basically an e-moto for people who grew up on BMX and never bought a motorcycle.
The rest of the pack
- Yadea launched the FATBOY, a fat-tire bike for city leisure and light off-road, and the FLO, a slimmer commuter.
- Verge Motorcycles showed the TS Pro, which it bills as the first production electric motorcycle with a solid-state battery. Solid-state is the battery claim of the decade; watch who ships one, not who announces one.
- Lexgo had a folding e-bike, the E Micro 10, at around 599 euros with a 250 W pedal-assist motor.
Electric skateboards at CES
Two boards stood out. WATT showed a skateboard platform with the battery built into a lightweight aluminum chassis and independent in-wheel motors, which is the clean way to do it: no belt, no external pack, each wheel driven on its own. The Sternboard, a French design, moves the battery into a backpack and is quoted at up to 70 km/h, roughly 43 mph, which is a number that should make you put your helmet on before you finish reading the sentence.
FUNN’s take, as a skate magazine first: an electric board is a different sport with the same stance. It is not cheating, it is a commute. The boards we respect are the ones that still feel like a deck underfoot and do not weigh 30 pounds.
The battery police are here
The quieter story of CES 2026 was regulation. New 2026 rules in California and New Jersey require third-party battery certification and stricter lighting on e-bikes and e-skateboards, and the Illinois Secretary of State launched a “Ride Safe” push aimed at the same riders. After a run of apartment fires blamed on cheap packs, this was coming. Expect every serious e-bike and board at CES 2027 to lead with a certification sticker, and expect the cheap no-name boards to quietly vanish from the US market.
What we are looking for in January
- A real electric skateboard under 10 pounds with in-wheel motors and a certified pack.
- Solid-state batteries you can buy, in anything, this year.
- E-motos that are street legal in California without a loophole.
- Something electric you can surf. We found no e-foil news at CES 2026 at all, which is strange for a show in a desert that sells to the coasts.
We will be riding whatever the booths let us ride, on camera. The West Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center is where the big mobility names live; the small boards tend to hide in the startup areas. We will find them.
